Sting Contributes To Flood Relief... Emergency Workers Invited To Attend Symphonicity Concert in Brisbane
In recognition of the selfless volunteers who generously helped their fellow Queenslanders in a time of tragedy, Sting and Live Nation have elected to invite many of these volunteers to his forthcoming Symphonicity concert at the Brisbane Riverstage on Monday, February 7. At the suggestion of the Queensland Premier's office, recipients will be selected by ballot from the Red Cross, the State Emergency Service and Volunteering Queensland.
Fans who have attended Sting's concerts in the southern states have already witnessed his poignant dedication of "Fragile" to those who have been flood-affected throughout Australia. Sting has donated royalties from his song "Fields Of Gold," included on the "Flood Relief: Artists for the Flood Appeal" benefit compilation CD, also featuring artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Bob Dylan, among others. He has also encouraged individuals to add to his own personal donation in support of the Premier's Fund and Red Cross relief efforts.
"The spirit of community that has grown out of this devastation has been inspirational," comments Sting. "I've contributed to a benefit compilation CD and like many others, made a personal donation to the ongoing flood relief efforts. It's a small gesture, but in the wake of this tragedy, it's important to help out however possible."
Those attending the Brisbane concert are in for a truly memorable experience as illustrated by Sting's performances with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony thus far:
"These arrangements skillfully complement Sting's original material without ever once compromising its purity." - The West Australian
"...startlingly fresh re-imaginings of his greatest hits." - Adelaide Now
"Fans agree, every little thing he does is magic." - The Herald Sun
