57th & 9th: World Tour

Sting in Monterrey...

Just over 7,000 people gathered at the Citibanamex Auditorium to enjoy an evening filled with classic rock from a music legend. Sting came to Monterrey to present his 57th & 9th Tour, the title of his latest album.

The 65-year-old English singer-songwriter thrilled the audience, who enthusiastically cheered and sang along to each of the hits the former lead singer of The Police performed last night. Before that, the evening was opened by his son, Joe Sumner, who, with a guitar and his voice, captured the attention and admiration of the audience that gathered very early at the Citibanamex Auditorium.

Joe showed off his perfect Spanish and his interpretive ability connected with the audience to kick off the evening in the best possible way. Sting's son would be joined by The Last Bandoleros, the Texan band that is also part of Sting's band on this tour.

But what everyone was waiting for would come at 9:23 p.m. when Sting took his bow on the stage and began to demonstrate why he is such a musical great. "Synchronicity II" and "Spirits in the Material World" were the perfect songs to open the show and let the crowd know that the music of his former band would be present throughout the evening.

Sting seemed in such a good mood to be on stage, so much so that it was contagious, and by the time the third song, "Englishman in New York," ended, a thunderous ovation could be heard in the Auditorium.

“Every Little Thing She Does is Magic,” “One Fine Day,” “Fields of Gold,” “Shape of My Heart,” and “Message in a Bottle” were central to the mid-show, a transition into Sting's most classic songs that kept the audience fully engaged, thanks to the impeccable performance of the Englishman and his band.

One of the most emotional moments was when Joe Sumner took the microphone again to sing “Ashes to Ashes,” a David Bowie song that the crowd sang along to. From then on, it was a whirlwind of hits from all eras, from his most recent “50,000,” to The Police classics like “Walking on the Moon” and “So Lonely,” to the 1999 smash hit “Desert Rose,” which earned Sting critical and public acclaim, selling over 3.5 million copies and even winning a Grammy. Sting took advantage of this moment to invite Raulito Navaira on stage, which elicited a very positive reaction from the event attendees.

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, better known as Sting, would put the cherry on the cake by performing the immortal classics "Roxanne," "Next to You," "Every Breath You Take," and the melancholic "Fragile."
