Police star makes arresting comeback...
"Nice to be back at the NEC!". Two years after he last played in Birmingham Police star Sting last night returned to thrill 10,000 fans.
The blond pop idol gave the army of faithful followers one of the most arresting performances of his career.
For more than two hours he powered through an electric set of songs ranging from his early Police days to his solo successes.
Backed by an exceptionally gifted American band he darted from rock to pop and jazz to blues with fluid ease.
Sting's current material from his 'Dream Of The Blue Turtles' album is easily the best of his eight years at the top, relying on a perfect marriage of lyric, melody and rhythm.
Three Police songs, 'Roxanne', 'Every Breath You Take' and 'Message In A Bottle' pointed to a future reunion of the band, but were really unnecessary.
