BMI hosted 17-time GRAMMY Award winning artist Sting for BMI Presents a Conversation with Sting at its Nashville office on Tuesday, October 20. Moderated by BMI CEO Mike O’Neill, the intimate conversation explored the artistry behind the BMI Icon’s twelve-track live album, The Night Watch: Live at the Rijksmuseum. Recorded inside Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum among paintings built on dramatic contrasts between light and shadow, Sting brings that same sensibility to his song choices: intimate ballads & classic hits.
Hosted by BMI’s Clay Bradley, attendees previewed Sting’s Sounds Like Art – Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam – ARTE Concert, showcasing his performances in the museum’s Gallery of Honor. During the discussion, Sting correlated the close connections between songs and paintings while exploring his fascination for history, literature, visual arts and music. To close out the evening, Sting was accompanied by his longtime collaborator & guitarist, Dominic Miller, for stripped down-versions of his iconic songs featured on the album including “Message in a Bottle,” “The Last Ship,” “The Night the Pugilist Learned How to Dance” and “Fields of Gold.” The evening concluded with a special performance of “Every Breath You Take,” the most performed song in BMI’s repertoire.
Produced by Martin Kierszenbaum, The Night Watch: Live at the Rijksmuseum is available now on CD and vinyl, as well as all streaming platforms.
