Sting was selected by the American Screenwriters Association (ASA) to receive the prestigious David Angell Humanitarian Award. The award is named in honor of David Angell, an admired and respected Emmy-winning writer/producer for such loved television shows as 'Cheers', 'Wings' and 'Frasier', who perished with his wife Lynn in the September 11 attacks. The award was established by ASA with the permission of the Angell family to honor individual(s) in the entertainment industry who contribute to global well being through their selfless donation of time, expertise, or other support to improve the human condition.
"Sting personifies the principles of the David Angell Humanitarian Award through his contributions to the world as a humanitarian and environmental advocate," said John E. Johnson, Executive Director of the American Screenwriters Association. "His compassion is immeasurable."
"Sting's strength of character as a human being is evident in the way he lives his life and sets a standard for us all to follow," said Johnson. "We are pleased to recognize him with this honor.
