The Music Center announces Live At The Music Center: Concerts Celebrating Jerry Moss, Co-founder of A&M Records Feb 11-12, 2022 in Los Angeles...

December 1, 2021

EVENT TO FEATURE PERFORMANCES BY HERB ALPERT, BURT BACHARACH, MERRY CLAYTON, SÉRGIO MENDES AND STING. Actor Tim Curry and Others to Make Special Appearances as Part of Two Concerts Honoring the Long-Time Recording Industry Executive Responsible for Discovering and Nurturing Some of Modern History’s Most Influential Artists

The Music Center announced today Live at The Music Center: Concerts Celebrating Jerry Moss, Co-Founder of A&M Records, a weekend of tribute concerts celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Jerry Moss, a longtime patron of the performing arts center and a leading figure in the music industry as the co-founder of A&M Records. With a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of iconic artists under one roof, each concert will feature an incredible line-up of recording artists from the label’s illustrious roster with scheduled performances by Herb Alpert, Burt Bacharach, Merry Clayton, Sérgio Mendes, and Sting. Tim Curry and other artists will also join the tribute program to offer their perspective on the vast contributions Moss has made to music on a global level. The two- hour concerts will be held at The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on February 11–12, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. Additional performers will be announced. Individual tickets start at $82 and are on sale now at musiccenter.org/moss.

The performances and special appearances at Live at The Music Center: Concerts Celebrating Jerry Moss, Co-Founder of A&M Records will feature some of the legendary artists and musicians who Moss discovered. The musical performances will showcase the most celebrated songs produced under Moss’ guidance, in addition to stories and visuals illustrating and evoking the spirit and legacy of A&M Records fostered by the music mogul and his partner and co-founder Herb Alpert. Moss helped make the company the epicenter of the music business in Los Angeles for decades. The events are produced in collaboration with Emmy® and GRAMMY® winner John Beug, who worked at A&M in its early years, and with four-time GRAMMY®-winning record producer, musician and songwriter Larry Klein, who will serve as music producer and musical director.

Proceeds from both concerts will support The Music Center’s ongoing efforts to provide free and low-cost access to arts experiences for all Angelenos, a cause that has been a passion for Moss throughout his career. Long-time patrons of The Music Center, Tina and Jerry Moss gifted $25 million dollars in 2020 to help support the cultivation of strong arts and culture-focused partnerships and new programming initiatives at the County’s performing arts center. The Music Center’s three original venues on its campus are united by an expansive outdoor area, which is now named Jerry Moss Plaza.

“I met Mr. M in 1978 on my first trip to Los Angeles and was proud to induct him and Mr. A into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. He is one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met,” remarked Sting. “What made A&M so special was that the company was run and owned by artists for artists. And Jerry Moss understood how important that was. He was sensitive to our needs, respected the creative process and understood the freedom artists must have to let the art speak for itself. He made us feel like family; it was a partnership that I look back on today with great pride and gratitude.”

Long time business partner and collaborator Herb Alpert commented, “My success as a recording artist is greatly due to my dear friend and A&M partner Jerry Moss.”

“Jerry Moss is a one-of-a-kind individual, living professionally and personally with passion, creativity and with the utmost integrity - those values made him a maverick in the music industry,” said Rachel S. Moore, president and CEO of The Music Center. “As a music lover, Jerry signed singers and musicians whose performance ability stood out and then helped develop them into influential artists; as a result, he joined many of them by being inducted alongside his incredible partner, Herb Alpert, into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His devotion to the arts is what Music Center audience members will see firsthand with the amazing talent who will grace our stage in tribute to a man they hold in such high
regard.”

Best known for being the co-founder of A&M Records in 1962, along with trumpeter and bandleader Herb Alpert, Jerry Moss has had a successful career as a record executive for more than 60 years. Creating A&M Records from humble beginnings in a garage, Moss and Alpert launched the company with a handshake and an investment of $200 from both men; they turned the company into one of the most influential music makers of the century. Over 25 years, A&M grew into the largest independent record label in the world as it championed the art of the artist and greatly valued indisputable and genuine talent. A&M signed many of the industry’s most successful musical artists, including The Police, The Carpenters, Janet Jackson, Carole King, Joe Cocker and Peter Frampton, among many others. After selling A&M records to Polygram in 1989, Moss and Alpert formed Almo Sounds.

Moss serves as chairman of both Almo Sounds and Rondor Music Inc., a music publishing company, which has held over 65,000 songs, many of which are considered timeless classics in the industry. Both Moss and Alpert were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 as nonperformers. Moss is also a long-time horse breeder and owner, including the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo and the 2010 American Horse of the Year Zenyatta; he was appointed to the California Horse Racing Board in 2004. Both the Mosses have bred and own a number of horses that show promise including Red Flag and Lady T, which both recently stakes-placed.
