Been a fan since: My first memories of Sting’s music are when the 97 Roxanne remix got heavy play on BET back in the day, and the striking image of Sting looking devastatingly handsome in a suit was forever burned into my childhood memory. In 2005 in my sophomore year of high school, I did a deep dive into his music and became a lifelong fan. I promptly read Broken Music and felt a connection to his music and his life story in a way I haven’t felt elsewhere since. It’s odd because this Black woman from the Midwest USA isn’t the ideal Sting fan and folks chuckle, but everything about Sting from his lyrics, his activism, and his public persona has made me a devoted fan. His works influence my own writing and creative pursuits. Fingers crossed that someday I'll be able to tell him that.
Favourite Sting song: 'Be Still My Beating Heart'.
Favourite Police song: 'Wrapped Around My Finger'.
Favourite Sting album: '...Nothing Like The Sun' is a haunting and layered music experience from start to finish.
Favourite Police album: 'Ghost In The Machine'.
Most memorable concert: Seeing Sting live in Vegas on April 5th , 2023, because I got to go to a meet and greet! I had pre-planned things to say at this moment, like letting him know how his music has affected my life and inspired me BUT I instantly forgot everything! "Hello Sweetheart." Sting smiled as I approached. I was shaking like an idiot as he wrapped his arms around me. Hesitating, I asked if I could hug him, AND HE SLAPPED MY HAND ONTO HIS STOMACH! He has abs!!! We both laughed. Then during the opening number of Message in a Bottle, he recognized me in the crowd and sang to me! My soul ascended that night and has yet to be found.
