"It was worth the year-long wait": Sting at Fontainebleau, 90 minutes of a pinpoint-perfect show...
One year after the concert was canceled due to the weather, Sting headlined the Fblo Festival on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, in Fontainebleau, eagerly awaited by his many fans.
After the concert's cancellation last year, anticipation was high for Sting's concert on Tuesday, June 25, as part of the Fblo Festival at the Château de Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne). The signs leading up to the concert left no room for doubt: tricky traffic and complicated parking to accommodate the thousands of spectators.
This year, all the ingredients - including the weather - were in place for a wonderful evening. Opening the evening was the surprising band of Ludovic Louis, a native of Le Havre who moved to the USA. A quintet with grooves and funky accents that really got the crowd going. Then it was the turn of Giordana Angi, a Franco-Italian singer who notably sang a duet with Obispo... and a certain Sting.
Then the star took the stage for a 90-minute show, perfectly timed. No breaks - nor spontaneous improvisations, for that matter - but a veritable replay of hits, from the Police era to the present day. Accompanied by Chris Maas on drums and, of course, Dominic Miller on guitar, Sting simply delighted the Bellifontain audience.
An audience that came from far and wide. Patrick from Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry, Alain from Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, Daniel and Sylvie from Verrière-le-Buisson (Essonne), Brigitte and Laura - mother and daughter - from Nogent-sur-Seine and Troyes (Aube), respectively, and Dominique from Coudray-Montceaux: all were waiting for one thing: their Sting.
The one the weather had taken from them last year and whom they absolutely wanted to see and hear. Everyone had only one thing on their lips: it was worth the year-long wait." An even more unusual case was a family from Virginia who had planned their vacation to coincide with the concert...
Of course, everyone would have liked the show to last longer, but none regretted their presence, belting out the hits of this hitmaker at full throttle, from "Englishman in New York" to "Shape of My Heart" to the timeless "Roxane": a true show, a demonstration of remarkable fluidity. Sting is one of those artists who transcends generations.
On the organizational side, Thierry Mailles, the sub-prefect of Fontainebleau, reported that the concert brought together more than 9,000 festivalgoers on site. "We only had eight minor health incidents, and one festivalgoer was handed over to the police for celebrating the concert in an excessively drunk manner beforehand," he announced.
He added: "This is a more than positive outcome considering the singer's fame and the risks it could entail in terms of unrest." As for Sting, he left directly, as soon as the lights went out, for Charles-de-Gaulle airport, where a plane was waiting for him.
