Sting returns to Vilnius: impressive open-air concert and thousands of fans...
On the evening of June 23, the longest day of the year and the eve of Midsummer, the long-awaited open-air concert of world music icon Sting took place in Vilnius' Kalnai Park, bringing together many fans from all over Lithuania.
The summer warmth and the festive mood of Midsummer Eve created a special atmosphere at one of the most anticipated musical events of this summer. The audience had a unique opportunity to hear the live program of the world tour “STING 3.0”, which featured the most famous works from the artist’s career spanning almost five decades. Sting also demonstrated his knowledge of the Lithuanian language – he not only greeted but also thanked everyone present in Lithuanian.
In Vilnius, Sting appeared together with his long-time creative partner, guitar virtuoso Dominic Miller, and drummer Chris Maas, who has played with the bands “Mumford & Sons” and artist Maggie Rogers. The three-musician format gave new colours to well-known works and allowed the musicians’ exceptional skill to be revealed.
During the evening, such global hits as “Englishman In New York”, “Shape Of My Heart”, “Desert Rose”, “Fields Of Gold”, “Every Breath You Take”, “Message In A Bottle” and many other works that have become an integral part of world music history were played in Kalnų Parkas.
The concert evening was opened by the Irish rock band “Dea Matrona” from Belfast. The musicians who make up the band, Orláith Forsythe and Mollie McGinn, greeted the audience with an energetic performance that intertwined the traditions of classic rock with a modern guitar sound. The duo, which has been active since 2018, began their musical journey by playing on the streets and sharing recordings of their performances online, and today they successfully perform on international stages.
The “STING 3.0” tour marks a new creative stage in the legendary artist’s career. In this project, Sting presents his most famous works in a new, three-musician ensemble format, allowing the emotion and musical quality of the songs to be revealed even more. The tour was also inspired by the artist’s latest single “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)”, which was recorded by four-time Grammy Award-winning sound engineer Robert Orton.
The concert album “STING 3.0 LIVE” was recently released, which immortalises the performances of this tour. The album features fan-favourite songs, including a never-before-released live version of the song “Be Still My Beating Heart” and the legendary “Fragile”.
Sting’s concert in Vilnius’ Kalnų Parkas was presented by the largest concert organiser in the Baltics, “Live Nation Lietuva”.
