Sting: My Songs Tour: 2021 - 2023

The former frontman of the band "The Police" delivered an intense show...

For this first performance at the Arena du Pays d'Aix (he had never performed there before. As for the original April 7th concert date of the My Songs tour, which began in 2019, it had been postponed due to one of the musicians suffering from the coronavirus), would English singer and bassist Sting of the band The Police manage to wow the audience, nearly half a century after his debut? Proof of this, the songs "Message in a Bottle" and "Englishman in New York," performed Tuesday evening, in unison, in the venue after the lights had gone out.

The septuagenarian (he celebrated his 71st birthday on October 2nd) took to the stage shortly before 9 p.m., preceded by his musicians, all dressed in black. A tight-fitting T-shirt revealing his shoulders, leather pants, and a slender figure, the man retains the trappings of his youth, an arsenal of stringed instruments around him. Only his few wrinkles give him the appearance of a "wise old man" delighted to be on stage, while also delivering a great lesson in professionalism. "Thank you so much. I'm so happy to be here," he says repeatedly, in near-perfect French.
