Sting appeared before the audience in Sarajevo: Happy birthday Mr. Sumner...
Mr. Gordon Sumner, better known by his stage name Sting, finally appeared before the audience at his long-announced concert in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After a delay of several months, the concert that was supposed to be held in March gathered at least 15,000 people in Sarajevo's Zetra hall tonight.
This is part of Sting's "My Songs Tour", or rather the second part of this tour during which the famous British musician promotes his new album The Bridge. Sting came to Sarajevo from Romania, and after the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the tour continues in Reims, France.
The famous musician will probably remember this concert for a long time - considering that he is celebrating his 71st birthday today.
The first half hour of the concert was warmed up by Joe Sumner, a British rock musician, singer-songwriter and bassist, and in private life the son of Sting. After a good performance by Sumner Jr., Sting, one of the greatest pop-rock musicians of today, took the stage.
Sting came out at 20:53 and started in the most attractive way, with his hit from the time of The Police - Message in the Bottle. The entire Zetra, which this evening includes visitors from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as neighbouring countries, sang along with him in chorus.
The songs Englishmen in New York and Every Little Thing followed… after which Sting addressed the audience: "
Good evening, Sarajevo! This is my first time in Sarajevo. I wonder why…"
This was followed by spontaneous congratulations from the audience, who sang Happy birthday in chorus, thus congratulating the great master!
The famous musician was accompanied by a concert band of excellent musicians and vocalists, with whom, as he says, he has been collaborating for three years. The concert lasted a full two hours, during which all the big hits were performed, including If It's Love, Fields of Gold, Brand New Day, Shape of My Heart, Walking on the Moon.
The song Desert Rose brought the atmosphere to a fever pitch, and the official end of the concert was marked by the song Every Breath You Take.
Sting and the team performed two encores, the first of which was the legendary Roxanne. He dedicated the last song, Fragile, to the citizens of Sarajevo, visibly moved by today's visit to the Tunnel of Salvation and the warm reception in the city.
The concert coincides with election day in our country, but its atmosphere instils a dose of optimism that we are not completely on the margins of world concert events. After the arrival of the group U2 in 1997 and the concert of the band Jamiroquai in 2005, this is one of the rare arrivals of major foreign performers in Sarajevo. As a reminder, Sting has played twice in Zagreb and once in Belgrade.
The magic of the concert was ruined by the very poor organisation of the entrance to Zetra, with unmarked entry zones and the absence of ushers on the dark plateau of Zetra to direct thousands of visitors to the entrances.
