Lacking that certain Sting...
Sadly it came as no surprise, but the highlights of this gig came when Sting ignored his recent jazz doodlings and stuck to his back catalogue.
With few exceptions, his post-Police material fell way short of what he managed to achieve with Messers Copeland and Summers.
Not that the fresh-faced 41-year-old and his fault- less band didn't try occasionally to inject some life into the proceedings.
But for all his yelps and screams, you couldn't help feeling this was being treated as a bit of a low-key affair.
The ridiculous seating arrangements didn't help create much of a party atmosphere either, with jobs-worth security guards ordering the CD set crowd to stay in their chairs and behave. Maybe former teacher
Sting, or his advisors, still hanker after life in the classroom. Perhaps I should have gone to see Mr Sumner in his office.
