Sting's music against wildfires. The English musician returns to Italy for a unique concert, tonight at the Sassari stadium, in an evening organized to raise public awareness about the fires that devastate vast forest areas every year, causing serious environmental damage. The concert will feature not only Sting and his band, but also the most famous Sardinian rock band, Tazenda.
And it's no coincidence that the concert is taking place in Sardinia, "Undoubtedly the region most affected by this phenomenon," say the evening's organizers, "also because, more than any other region in Europe, it is a target for speculators. Sardinia must be the first in the fight against forest fires." Nor is the choice of artists involved in this event a coincidence. Sting has been at the forefront of environmental campaigns for years and has linked a significant portion of his work to protecting the Amazon rainforest, helping to make it a symbol of environmentalism. Tazenda, for their part, wrote and recorded a song on the subject, and the event's title, "Abberimus custat fiammas e addorojamus," (Let's tear these flames and scream), is taken from the band's song.
Sting will also perform in Sassari the concert we saw in Italy last season during his world tour. The concert will focus largely on compositions from his latest album, "Ten Summoner's Tales," undoubtedly one of his finest solo albums, an album that won him numerous awards and returned him to the top of the charts worldwide. A good portion of the concert, however, is dedicated to the Police's beloved hits, such as 'Walking on the Moon,' 'Message in a Bottle,' and 'Roxanne,' performed with great energy by an excellent line-up consisting of Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, David Sancious on keyboards, and Dominic Miller on guitar.
"It's a concert against resignation," the organizers say, emphasizing the importance of tonight's event, "in which music plays an important role in raising awareness not only among the audience but also among institutions."
