Police force...
Police supporters gathered in force and helped the group almost raise the roof at their pre-Christmas con- cert at the Brighton Centre.
The audience, which contained everyone from school- girls to chartered accountants, was surprisingly restrained at first. But wild applause and pogo-ing was set off when the group attacked the air with a constant barrage of hits such as 'Message In A Bottle', 'Walking On the Moon' and 'Roxanne'.
There wasn't a second of silence in a set lasting well over an hour.
All the tracks were brilliantly performed. Sting, the group's lead singer was in fine form and the songs sounded heavier live than on record. You certainly did not need to be a Police fan to appreciate the quality of the performance.
The encore was a long version of 'Can't Stand Losing You', which went down particularly well.
More than just worth a listen were the support band The Alarm, who were responsible for the rather good hit single '68 Guns' in 1983.
